It was the best of seasons; it was the worst of seasons. It was apparent before the season began that Chelsea would be unable to match the euphoria of their Champions League glory the prior season, therefore the expectations going into this season were fairly low by the clubs own high standards; finish comfortably in the top 4, have a decent run in the domestic cups and Champions League, possibly win the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup to add to the already bulging trophy cabinet all whilst making the transition from the old guard still present from Mourinho’s first reign to a new, more progressive Chelsea built around the trio of Mata, Hazard and Oscar.
