There’s only one Roman Abramovich, the domineering billionaire who’s changed how football clubs are run



It’s coming up to ten years since Roman Abramovich took over as owner of Chelsea and to say that Chelsea has undergone a “Russian Revolution” is an underestimate. He’s now made 10 managerial appointments, sacking some of the greatest managers of the modern era in the process, the words “continuity”, “stability” and “patience” clearly not in his vocabulary. Abramovich has definitely changed the way football clubs are run in England and he is the pioneer of the modern Premier League owner with the importance of quick success vital, managers not being given sufficient time to change a team’s fortunes. His philosophy is that if the results are bad or Chelsea is going in the wrong direction, he brutally at times gives managers their marching orders, never scared to sack the very best.
